Launched in November 2013, the Tony Lapham Mara Predator Hub is situated in the heart of the Greater Mara Ecosystem. It is the base of operations for the landmark Mara Cheetah Project and Mara Lion Project initiated by the Kenya Wildlife Trust in 2013.
The Tony Lapham Predator Hub is dedicated to the memory of Tony Lapham, passionate conservationist with a particular fondness for the Maasai Mara and it’s big cats. He would have been deeply concerned by the increasingly grave threats that they face today. With a deep appreciate for good science and durable conservation it was fitting that the Hub be dedicated in his memory.
The Hub is a simple, efficient and highly functional base camp on community land adjoining the reserve which provides a scientific team with the equipment and tools necessary to carry out their research. It allows us, for the first time, to study and conserve both cheetah and lion together, and to have the collaboration of the long-standing and very respected Mara Hyena Project.
