We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Elizabeth Pantoren as our new Executive Director (ED). Dr. Pantoren, a wildlife conservationist and advocate for community-driven solutions, will succeed Dr. Irene Amoke as she assumes leadership of Kenya Wildlife Trust (KWT). After six successful years as ED, Dr. Amoke will be transitioning to the role of advisor to the Trust. Dr. Pantoren brings over 25 years of transformational work in wildlife conservation to KWT. Her commitment to empowering communities alongside protecting Kenya’s ecosystems aligns perfectly with our vision. Her extensive leadership roles at institutions like the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Nature and People as One (NaPO), Nyayo Tea Zone Development Corporation (NTDZ), and the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) demonstrate her capability to steer KWT towards advancing community-centered predator conservation.
Dr. Pantoren understands the link between thriving wildlife and thriving communities. Throughout her career, she has progressed in community conservation, social development, and responsible governance. Her academic credentials, including a Ph.D. in Sociology, further highlight her expertise in people-centered conservation strategies.
KWT, under Dr. Pantoren’s guidance, will continue to prioritize a data-driven approach to conservation. We are dedicated to partnering with grassroots organizations, empowering local communities, and promoting a collaborative environment among all stakeholders. Together, we believe we can achieve sustainable predator protection strategies that benefit Kenya’s ecosystems, its people, and the nation as a whole.
KWT expresses sincere appreciation to Dr. Irene Amoke for her leadership over the past six years.
“I warmly welcome Dr. Pantoren to KWT and am confident in her ability to lead it toward continued success in protecting Kenya’s wildlife heritage. I want to thank the KWT board, staff, partners, and supporters for their dedication throughout my tenure. It has been an incredible privilege to work alongside such passionate individuals. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together.
As I transition into my new role as advisor, I am excited about the opportunities ahead and fully committed to supporting Dr. Pantoren and the entire KWT team.” – Dr. Irene Amoke, Outgoing ED.
